Chapter 04 — The Virginia file

Radon testing & mitigation in Virginia

This site imports no Virginia state roster, so these are current NRPP and NRSB certifications from those programs’ public finders. A national certification is not a state license. We group people by the city on that file. We do not invent neighborhoods. Source: NRPP.

How to verify a radon credential in Virginia

Virginia issues no radon credential of its own. Va. Code § 32.1-229.01 requires screening, testing, and mitigation to be carried out by someone listed with the National Radon Proficiency Program or the National Radon Safety Board, so that national listing is the radon credential Virginia law names. This covers the radon requirement only; contractor licensing, business registration, and local permits are separate and are not covered here.

Questions about radon credentials in Virginia

Does Virginia license radon testers and mitigators?

Virginia issues no radon credential of its own. Instead Va. Code § 32.1-229.01 requires screening, testing, and mitigation to be carried out by someone listed with the National Radon Proficiency Program or the National Radon Safety Board. There is no state agency roster to check, because the state issues nothing to list.

How do I verify a radon credential in Virginia?

Check the person's listing on the NRPP or NRSB public finder, because that national listing is what Va. Code § 32.1-229.01 requires. The Virginia radon program can be reached at Radon@vdh.virginia.gov or 804-864-8161. Match the name and the certification number on the program's own page before you hire.

Is an NRPP or NRSB certification enough in Virginia?

For the radon requirement itself, yes: Va. Code § 32.1-229.01 names an NRPP or NRSB listing as what Virginia law requires for screening, testing, and mitigation, and the state issues no separate credential. That covers the radon rule only. Contractor licensing, business registration, and local permits are separate requirements that this site does not track.
